Marvel Skipping San Diego Comic Con in 2015, According to Director James Gunn
Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn appears to be under the impression that Marvel is skipping San Diego Comic Con this year.
In a Facebook Q&A over the weekend, Gunn suggested that there will be no Marvel properties whatsoever at Hall H this summer…
However, Disney would neither confirm nor deny that Marvel would be skipping this year’s event. Granted, there are plenty of other conventions where Marvel could make its big announcements. Hell, they could hold their own press conferences to announce whatever they want, or they could even just leak announcements online with the same result. But fans and audiences have come to expect a presence from Marvel at Comic Con each year, as the studio has been one of the more consistent highlights.
Could it be that Disney has something huge planned for Star Wars and doesn’t want Marvel to detract attention from it? I’m thinking we might be getting a new trailer for Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, but I’m not sure how it would hurt the brand to have Marvel there. If anything, Disney will be the talk of the festival, with its two big properties being the major talking points of the convention. Why hold back on one simply to bolster the other, when neither would suffer for the other’s presence?
We don’t know. Of course, it’s all speculation at this point anyway. If Marvel is skipping Comic Con this year, it could be for some other reason we don’t even know about. I do hope Marvel comes to the show though. I’m not sure it’d be the same without them.
