Man Dies After Crashing Tesla Model S Into Swimming Pool
An 85-year-old man died after crashing his Tesla Model S through a brick wall and into a swimming pool in Houston on Sunday. This is the fifth death recorded under “extreme conditions” involving a Tesla Model S.
The crash was described by the sister of a passenger who survived the crash (via KPRC):
“Something went wrong. She said she thinks he hit the gas instead of the brake and the car went through the garage, down into the swimming pool,” said Ann Bolton.
Bolton described a very chaotic situation at the home on Potomac near Valley Forge. At about 2 p.m. Sunday, Bolton said an 85-year-old man who she called Mr. Moore was behind the wheel as her sister sat in the passenger’s seat.
“He and my sister were together coming back from Bellville. He was taking her tomorrow to MD Anderson,” said Bolton.
Bolton said once the Tesla landed in the swimming pool it slowly dropped to the bottom, giving her sister time to escape through a window.
“He said, ‘Get out of the car.’ She got out of the car, trying to get him out of the car, but the way they’re made with the console and the seat belts and everything, it just didn’t happen,” Bolton said.
The 85-year-old man died at a hospital.
We don’t really know what this woman meant by “but the way they’re made with the console and the seat belts and everything.” As far as I know, Tesla seats are like any other car seat.
The electrek blog has been covering Tesla Model S deaths over the years, and all of them involved crashes under “extreme conditions.” Here’s the list:
- Driver dies after his Model S fell off a cliff in Sonoma county

Be safe out there Tesla owners!
