Madame Tussauds Releases Statement on ‘Inappropriate’ Nicki Minaj Photos

Nicki Minaj is causing a stir in Las Vegas — and she’s not even there!

Madame Tussauds wax museum has released a statement in response to visitors at their Las Vegas location who are posing for “inappropriate” photos with the wax statue of Nicki Minaj. Of course, you could argue Madame Tussauds started all this themselves by choosing to recreate, of all things, Nicki’s scantily-clad, all-fours pose from the “Anaconda” music video. Regardless, Madame Tussauds is planning to increase security around the statue, in the event that anybody else forgets how to act in public.

“We have been made aware of the inappropriate photograph that was taken at Madame Tussauds Las Vegas, involving Nicki Minaj’s new wax figure,” the Twitter statement read. “Madame Tussauds attractions are interactive, immersive experiences, and our visitors are generally respectful towards the wax figures. It is unfortunate that this visitor decided to behave so inappropriately and we apologise for any offence this has caused.”

The statement continued, “We are taking immediate steps to ensure more staff are present in this area and that the set around this particular figure is redesigned so that a picture like this cannot be taken again.”

It’s not certain to which photo the statement is referring, although the general consensus online is that it’s this one:

Initially, Nicki was completely on-board with the wax statue, promoting it on Instagram, and even highlighting photos of the fans posing with her statue in inappropriate ways. But I can get why Madame Tussauds was less supportive of the practice. Other celebrities will be less likely to allow their likenesses to be used if they think this is what’s going to be done to their statues. Again, while the visitor in question showed downright embarrassing behavior, a significant part of the blame has to go to Madame Tussauds. As Azaelia Banks said, in a Twitter post denouncing the statue, “As much as that woman has accomplished, they had to put her on all fours… Why not standing up with a mic in her hand ???”

If Madame Tussauds really wanted to remedy the situation, they’d make a statue that doesn’t allow for these sorts of poses in the first place. Lord knows, plenty of other stars have tasteful statues. I don’t see why Nicki can’t have one too.
