‘Mad Men’ Final Season Premiere Date Announced
The premiere date for the final episodes of Mad Men has been announced. (Well, technically, the premiere date for the second half of the final season, which was split into two parts, with the first half airing last spring)
Earlier today, at the 2015 Winter TCA Press Tour, it was announced that the final seven episodes of Mad Men will premiere on Sunday, April 5, at 10:00 PM on AMC.
“What an incredible journey this has been. I take great pride in what the entire Mad Men team was able to create episode after episode, season after season,” said series creator Matthew Weiner in a statement Saturday. “We sincerely thank the fans for joining us on this ride and hope it has meant as much to them as it has to us.”
“Mad Men is the show that put AMC on the map. Period,” added AMC President Charlie Collier. “It is impossible to overstate the impact it has had on AMC, and I would argue, this era of television.”
“We are honored to forever be the birthplace and home of this iconic series and we can’t wait to share its artful conclusion with the fans. From the first shot, Matthew, his cast and crew handcrafted something truly distinctive for the screen, the very definition of premium television on basic cable,” Collier continued. “We will miss the remarkable people, the consistently exquisite program, and of course, the free scotch and cigarettes in our vending machines.”
Season 7B has a lot to live up to, and it seems like a bit of a daunting task, considering that any season of Mad Men needs time to build up. Hell, for plenty of seasons, episode 7 is where it actually starts picking up, narratively. However, here, episode 7 will be the series finale. Luckily, the show was able to achieve a certain narrative momentum in just seven episodes last year, so Weiner and co. definitely can pull it off, in isolation. But can they really give the series the momentous conclusion it deserves in just seven hours? I’ll be interested to see it all come together, starting on April 5th.
