Lewis Hamilton Wins World Championship After Dramatic 2017 Mexico Grand Prix
Lewis Hamilton won his fourth F1 Driver’s World Champhionship at the 2017 Mexico Grand Prix on Sunday, October 29, 2017. The Mercedes driver needed to finish at least 5th in the race or for Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull to not finish in 1st or 2nd. Hamilton finished 9th and Vettel finished 4th.
The race started in dramatic fashion as pole sitter Vettel collided with Max Verstappen of Red Bull and Hamilton – puncturing the Mercedes driver’s rear right tire. Verstappen ended up winning the race decisively.
There are two more races left in the season and Hamilton has too big a lead for Vettel to catch up.
On the radio, soccer superstar Neymar Jr. sent his congratulations.
At the end of the race Lewis said:
“Thank you to everyone who came out to support. The Mexican fans are the best around the world. I did everything I could, I had a good start, I don’t know what happened but I gave [Vettel] plenty of room. Mercedes have been incredible over the past five years. It doesn’t feel real. I never gave up. I kept going right to the end, I’m grateful for today and I just want to lift it up for my family, for God and for my team.”
Let’s go Lewis!
