Laverne Cox Is Dr. Frank-N-Furter for FOX’s ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’
Laverne Cox is headed to FOX!
The Orange Is the New Black star and first-ever transgendered Emmy nominee is joining the cast of The Rocky Horror Picture Show remake in the role of mad scientist Dr. Frank-N-Furter, the iconic role made famous by Tim Curry in the original 1975 film. I could easily see her nailing this role, since it requires a certain amount of gusto and commitment that Cox has in spades. Granted, I still don’t think this movie is a great idea (since the original is so beloved), but if FOX is really going through with this, they might as well go all-in.
High School Musical director Kenny Ortega will helm the two-hour TV movie. He will also choreograph the film and executive produce alongside Lou Adler (The Rocky Horror Picture Show) and former FOX president Gail Berman.
FOX’s version of The Rocky Horror Picture Show will debut in Fall 2016.
