Kurt Angle To Headline 2017 WWE Hall of Fame Class
It’s official: one of the most popular stars in wrestling history is going into the 2017 WWE Hall of Fame Class!
WWE has officially announced that former WWE champion and Olympic gold medalist Kurt Angle will headline the 2017 WWE Hall of Fame Class.
“Kurt Angle’s accomplishments both in the Olympics and WWE were extraordinary,” said WWE’s Executive Vice President of Talent, Live Events and Creative Paul Levesque (Triple H). “He was one of the most gifted athletes to ever enter the ring, and we are honored to welcome him into the WWE Hall of Fame.”
For his part, Angle himself is completely flustered by how surreal this all is.
“I was shocked. I’ve been out of WWE for a long time and out of touch with them so I didn’t really expect this,” Angle told ESPN.com. “It’s a huge honor. This is the only Hall of Fame that I’m not in and probably [the one] I want to be in the most. This is the one that means the most for me. I had a lot of fun entertaining the fans for seven years with WWE, and I’m glad that my hard work paid off.”
This is HUGE for Wrestlemania weekend, as Angle is one of the last big return pops WWE has left. Angle is an icon, and I’d love to see him in the ring one last time, even though I doubt WWE would ever actually clear him to compete. If Daniel Bryan can’t be cleared by their doctors, I just don’t see how Angle could be cleared. Still, I would love at least a token spot in the Royal Rumble, or maybe a gig managing American Alpha. And hey, you never know. Maybe through some fluke, Angle does get cleared? I guess we’ll see. But all I know is that Wrestlemania season just became a whole lot more exciting. Congratulations to Kurt!
