Kiersey Clemons Joins ‘The Flash’ Movie as Iris West
The Flash movie has finally found its Iris West in Dope star Kiersey Clemons!
The news comes off the heels of San Diego Comic Con 2016, which offered us our first look at the big screen version of The Flash, as Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen came face-to-face with Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne in the brief preview clip. While The Flash movie won’t be released until March 16, 2018, here’s hoping we get to see Clemons as Iris at next year’s Comic Con, if not sooner.
As for now, we don’t really know all that much about the movie itself. I could see them doing Flashpoint, if only to make the most out of having cast Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan as Thomas and Martha Wayne, respectively, in the DC Universe. But it seems too early to do a Flashpoint movie, and not just because The CW show is doing a version of the arc this fall. Rather, it makes sense to do it after Batman has his solo film, and the character’s pathos is already established. Also, The Flash deserves a movie that focuses on his character directly, rather than using him as a conduit through which to tell another Batman story.
That said, I’m optimistic about this movie. Although losing director Seth Grahame-Smith is concerning, the decision to hire Dope director Rick Famuyiwa bodes well for this film having a different style than your standard big screen blockbuster. And hey, the script comes from a treatment by super duo Chris Miller and Phil Lord, who have an amazing track record for delivering above expectations.
