‘Anne of Green Gables’ Actor Jonathan Crombie Dead at 48
Actor Jonathan Crombie — best known for his work as Gilbert Blythe in the CBC Anne of Green Gables mini-series has passed away at the age of 48.
Crombie died on Wednesday (April 15) in New York City of a brain hemorrhage.
The news was confirmed by Crombie’s sister Carrie to CBC yesterday (April 18).
“I think he was really proud of being Gilbert Blythe,” his sister said of his famous role in the 1980s. “He really enjoyed that series and was happy, very proud of it – we all were.”
I think his proudest part was when he played the lead in Drowsy Chaperone on Broadway. That was just an amazing thing for him to be able to do.”
Other work on stage and screen include a run on the original 21 Jump Street and most recently an appearance on an episode of The Good Wife.
