John Stamos Checks Into Rehab, Pulls Out of Emmy Nominations
John Stamos has checked into rehab, according to PEOPLE.
Stamos has reportedly “checked himself into a residential program for the treatment of substance abuse,” This, of course, means he won’t be able to attend any of his upcoming obligations. Stamos had been slated to co-host the 2015 Emmy Award nominations on Thursday alongside Orange Is the New Black star Uzo Aduba, but this rehab stint has necessitated that Stamos pull out of the gig. The Full House alum will be replaced by So You Think You Can Dance host Cat Deeley.
This news comes less than a month after the 51-year-old Stamos was arrested for DUI while in Beverly Hills. However, it wasn’t until he was checked out at the hospital that his intoxication was verified. It was apparently bad enough that he was checked into the hospital for treatment of what police worried was a possible medical condition. What, exactly, has not been disclosed. Either way, Stamos checked out of the hospital of his own volition less than a day later. His court date for the DUI is set for September 11, although it’s uncertain if he’ll have completed his rehab program by then, as the length of his stay is uncertain. If nothing else, we just hope he’s there for however long it takes for him to get well, and to be confident in his ability to avoid relapse.
That said, this creates a bit of a conflict for him, as he has a new comedy on FOX. Grandfathered premieres this fall, so the network was probably depending on Stamos to help promote the series. But if he’s still in rehab, that’s going to be kind of difficult. Here’s hoping he doesn’t feel the need to rush his recuperation.
We wish John Stamos the best in his recovery.
