John Hurt Reveals He Has Pancreatic Cancer

Veteran British actor Sir John Hurt has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, however, the 75-year-old still remains optimistic.

The news was revealed in a statement to People by the actor himself.

Said Hurt, “I have always been open about the way in which I conduct my life and in that spirit I would like to make a statement. I have recently been diagnosed with early stage pancreatic cancer. I am undergoing treatment and am more than optimistic about a satisfactory outcome, as indeed is the medical team.”

“I am continuing to focus on my professional commitments and will shortly be recording Jeffrey Bernard Is Unwell (one of life’s small ironies!) for BBC Radio 4,” he would go on to add, proving just how optimistic he is.

A two-time Academy Award nominee, John Hurt is best known for starring in The Elephant Man and Midnight Express.

You may also know him as the War Doctor on Doctor Who, the Professor in Hellboy and wand-maker Ollivander in The Harry Potter franchise.
