‘Jem and the Holograms’ Trailer Barely Resembles the Original, Is Not Very Outrageous (VIDEO)

Just as we feared, the Jem and the Holograms film trailer has arrived and there are no actual holograms in sight.

Don’t get us wrong, the film itself doesn’t look terrible, but aside from names and eye makeup it bares little resemblance to the cartoon series Jem.

In the film, Jerrica, her sister and her aunt’s foster kids are catapulted into super stardom after a video of Jerrica — later known by the stage name Jem — goes viral.

What follows is a story centered around the pitfalls of fame and the importance of family, friendship and being true to yourself.

Which has us wondering, why even calls this film Jem and the Holograms? It’s basically World War Z all over again.

The only nod to the original seems to be a single moment in which the titular Jem touches a glowing earring and whispers, “Showtime, Synergy,” but we’re not holding our breath for an appearance from the super computer.
