Jay Hernandez Joins ‘Suicide Squad’

The cast for Suicide Squad continues to grow as we near the official start of filming.

Nashville and Friday Night Lights alum Jay Hernandez is joining the cast in an unspecified role. Reportedly, negotiations are still in the early stages for Hernandez, but his involvement in the film is all but assured. Once signed, he would join a cast that includes Jared Leto as The Joker, Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, and Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, replacing Tom Hardy, who dropped out of the film.

Not a whole lot is known about what role Hernandez could be playing, but one rumor suggests he will play Chato Santana, the villain otherwise known as El Diablo. This is in going with the rumor that we’ll get brief glimpses of several other mid-tier villains, from Killer Frost and Live Wire to King Shark and Block Buster. It’s getting to be a crowded film, but it still sounds like a lot of fun. Hernandez is a damn solid actor, and I’m actually hoping the Chato Santana rumor is true. This is a movie that won’t necessarily be hurt for piling on the villains. You know, unlike Spider-Man 3.
