Jaimie Alexander Returning as Lady Sif to ‘Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’
Last year, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. featured a major crossover event with Thor: The Dark World, bringing some of the Asgardian characters of the Marvel Cinematic Universe down to Earth. One of those characters was Lady Sif — an Asgardian warrior who isn’t quite finished with our world just yet.
Jaimie Alexander is returning to Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as Lady Sif, but she’s a significantly different character this time around. This time around, she’s lost her memory, so she’s not only struggling with the villain of the week, she’s struggling with questions of her own identity.
“Sif has no idea who Thor is or that she serves a king, and we’re going to have fun with that,” says executive producer Jeffrey Bell. “It’ll give us some much-needed humor in a season that’s been full of betrayal and death. Sif can’t even recall who she came here from Asgard to stop, but Agent Coulson [Clark Gregg] and his team will try to help her figure all that out.”
That said, she does know, at least, that she’s Asgardian. And with that knowledge comes an understanding of alien races, such as the Inhumans, the race that will be a huge factor in the second half of season two. “We’ve been dealing a lot with space aliens and Inhumans in our last few episodes—things our Earth-bound heroes just don’t know much about,” Bell says. “They need help understanding what’s really going on. Sif’s memory—what’s left of it—will come in very handy.”
The specifics surrounding Alexander’s return to the series have been hush-hush, beyond the basic story that she’s here to fight a rival whose powers are enough to give Lady Sif a run for her money. Marvel, however, is keeping that villain’s identity a secret for now. All we know for certain is that the S.H.I.E.L.D. team gets roped into the conflict when footage of Sif’s battle goes viral, prompting a full-scale investigation. Honestly, it sounds pretty exciting, and Alexander is always a welcome presence on the show. She may not be Thor or Loki or anything, but she still lends a certain big screen gravitas to each episode. I’ll be stoked to see her return, especially if her battle with the secretive villain is as epic as network TV will allow.
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns Tuesday, March 3 at 9/8c on ABC.
