Jackie Evancho Says Performing For Donald Trump ‘Not Political’
Former “America’s Got Talent” contestant Jackie Evancho is performing at Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20. She has been widely criticized online for the move, specially since she has a transgender sister, Juliet, who came out in 2015.
Trump and many Republicans are anti-LGBT politically and vice president-elect Mike Pence signed a law in Indiana that allowed for the discrimination of gay people.
Juliet Evancho has filed a lawsuit in their local school district in Pennsylvania for her right to use women’s bathrooms.
In an interview with the New York Times, Jackie said she decided for herself to perform at the inauguration and it wasn’t “political.”
“I just kind of thought that this is for my country,” she said. “So if people are going to hate on me it’s for the wrong reason.”
Regarding her sister’s bathroom lawsuit she said: “For me it’s not political. It’s just accepting people for who they are.”
Let’s be honest here. Either Jackie Evancho doesn’t completely understand what she is doing, or she does, and she is willing to set aside her family’s politics to advance her entertainment career. This is the biggest exposure she’s had in years and I understand why she would take the risk.
However, this sounds like a case of trying to have your cake and eat it too. If you are going to honor Donald Trump, get ready to face the consequences. There’s a reason why so many entertainers have declined invitations to perform and be associated with Trump.
This shows a lot about Jackie’s character more than anything. So disappointed in her.
