It’s Official: CM Punk Will Fight Mickey Gall At UFC 203
With rumors making the rounds yesterday that CM Punk would not be making his UFC debut this summer after all, the company has now gotten in front of the story by confirming that the former WWE champion will make his MMA debut at UFC 203 on September 10th from Cleveland.
The untested Punk will face off against 2-0 fighter Mickey Gall as part of a fight card that features a double main event of hometown favorite Stipe Miocic defending his newly-won UFC heavyweight title against Alistair Overeem, and former heavyweight champ Fabricio Werdum taking on Ben Rothwell.
Punk, born Phil Brooks, was set to debut far earlier, considering he’s been signed to a UFC contract since December 2014. But between Dana White’s months-long search for the right opponent, and a shoulder injury Punk sustained during training at Roufusport Academy in Milwaukee, it’s a bit understandable why it’s taken so long to finally get Punk in the octagon.
