‘Independence Day 2’ Is Now ‘Independence Day Resurgence’ (FIRST LOOK)
Next summer, the Independence Day franchise hopes to ride on the same glorious nostalgia wave that is carrying Jurassic World to incredible box office returns. And that means giving the new sequel a title that maintains the recognizable quality of the original, but with a new twist.
Independence Day 2 is now going by the title Independence Day Resurgence, as Fox is beginning the first hints of its promotional push for the movie, due out next June. Case in point, the studio has released a pair of first look photos, one of a Moon Tug spacecraft that will be central to the film, and another of director Roland Emmerich posing with the device. Check out the pics below:
The sequel features a mixture of familiar faces and newcomers to the franchise, as Bill Pullman, Vivica A. Fox, and Jeff Goldblum, and Judd Hirsch will return, while Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, Sela Ward and Charlotte Gainsbourg join the franchise. Independence Day Resurgence will hit theaters on June 24, 2016 — almost 20 years after the first movie was released. Not much is known about the story right now, but it’s expected to center on (what else?) the nations of Earth uniting to defend the planet from a vicious alien assault. Sounds like a good time.
But what do you think? Are you looking forward to Independence Day: Resurgence? Sound off in the comments!
