Iggy Azalea Quits Social Media Over Body Shaming Comments

Iggy Azalea is officially done with social media.

Iggy announced her decision to bail on Twitter after receiving body shaming comments. It all started when a set of pics of her Hawaiian getaway with boyfriend Nick Young surfaced online. It didn’t take long for comments to start filtering in, getting on Iggy’s case about the “butt cellulite” that was visible in the pics. The comments got nasty, and Iggy quickly countered by declaring she was no longer going to put up with the “hatred and pettiness” that typifies social media interactions.

“Just got back from a great vacation, came online and saw apparently it’s shocking and unheard of to be a woman and have cellulite. Lol,” Iggy’s first tweet reads. She follows it up by adding, “I just want to have peace and relaxation time without a perve with long distance lense hiding out taking pictures, everyone deserves peace.”

The tweets continue:

She then closed it out with this poignant observation…

It’s a shame that it had to come to this in the first place, but I suppose the anonymity and various levels of remove that the internet provides essentially has the power to make jerks out of regular people. Or maybe it just brings out their true colors. Either way, I can’t say I blame Iggy for taking a break, whether it’s a permanent one or not.
