Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey Join ‘The Dark Tower’ Film Adaptation
After a lifetime of trying to bring the epic story to life on the big screen, Stephen King has revealed the two leads for the film adaptation of his Dark Tower series. Recent SAG Award winner Idris Elba will team with Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey in the long-awaited movie saga.
King tweeted the details this morning, as Elba will be playing the gunslinger, while McConaughey will portray the iconic Man in Black. King’s tweets were followed by tweets from Elba and McConaughey themselves, in an amusing little exchange:

This movie is going to be a massive undertaking, considering the story of The Dark Tower is told across eight novels and countless comic books. How they’re going to condense this for the screen is anyone’s guess. Still, this should be some epic filmmaking, as the story of gunslinger and Mid-World knight Roland Deschain is one of the all-time greats in modern literature. Deschain and The Man In Black racing to a tower at the center of all time and space? Count me in!
The Dark Tower, from director Nikolaj Arcel, who helmed the Swedish version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, will begin filming in seven weeks, with a targeted release date of January 13, 2017.
