Hulk Hogan vs. Gawker Documentary Coming To Netflix
The entire situation between WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan and Gawker Media has been one of the ugliest legal clashes in recent entertainment industry history, as Hogan took Gawker to court over leaking a sex tape that led to other leaks, including a series of tapes featuring Hogan making racially-insensitive remarks. Now, the story of the case is coming to Netflix in the form of an all-new documentary.
Netflix has bought the rights to the Sundance hit, Nobody Speak: Hulk Hogan, Gawker And Trials Of A Free Press, from director Brian Knappenberger. The documentary will detail everything from the video’s leak, Hogan’s release from WWE, right down to Hogan being awarded a $140 million judgment, culminating in Gawker being shut down. It’s an interesting tale of just how “free” the press can be, and where the courts enter into it.
This is instantly my most anticipated film coming to Netflix this year. The Gawker case is fascinating, not only for its potential effects on online press, but in how it’s changed public perception of Hulk Hogan, in ways that are positive for some, and negative for others. I’m definitely looking forward to finally watching this documentary.
