HBO Now Launches on Apple TV and Optimum
The long wait is over, as people who’ve longed for an HBO subscription without the albatross of a cable commitment can now have their cake and eat it too.
HBO Now has officially launched, as Apple TV and Optimum users can now subscribe to the standalone streaming service for $14.99 per month. As an added bonus, the service comes with a free 30-day trial. This comes just in time for the Season 5 premiere of Game of Thrones this Sunday, as demand for HBO content is about to shoot through the roof.
However, Apple TV isn’t the only place HBO Now is expected to be available, nor is internet service provider Optimum the only avenue for the subscription service, as other outlets such as Sling TV are expected to add the service in the coming months. Sure, it’s not really the expansive launch some people were hoping for, but the notion that you can now get HBO without a separate cable or internet subscription is pretty huge. If nothing else, it provides a legal means for watching Game of Thrones, without resorting to piracy or having to wait nearly a year for the DVDs.
Sounds like a win to me.
