Germanwings Crash: Pilot Was Locked Out Of Cockpit – Report
Some distressing details have emerged from Germanwings flight 4U9525 that crashed in the French Alps on Tuesday killing 150 onboard. The New York Times reports that one of the pilots may have been locked out of the cockpit before the crash.
An audio recording from the flight indicates that one of the two pilots left the cockpit and was unable to return. He knocked, then kept on knocking harder, but the other pilot in the cockpit did not answer.
“You can hear he is trying to smash the door down,” a source is quoted. “… what is sure is that at the very end of the flight, the other pilot is alone and does not open the door.”
Terrorism is being ruled out. So was it suicide? Very upsetting.
UPDATE: “Kamikaze” Co-Pilot has been accused of mass murder by authorities:
Andreas Lubitz, the co-pilot of Germanwings Flight 9525, locked the pilot out of the cockpit and intentionally crashed the plane in an act of mass murder, according to Marseille public prosecutor Brice Robin. “It is intentional,” Robin said in a press conference Thursday, stressing that Lubitz’s actions were “completely voluntary.”
