‘Game of Thrones’ Star Gwendoline Christie Joins ‘Hunger Games: Mockingjay’
Brienne of Tarth is leaving Westeros behind for Panem.
Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie will be replacing actress Lily Rabe as Commander Lyme in Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2. The casting decision was made after Rabe had to drop out due to a scheduling conflict with her commitment to perform in Much Ado about Nothing at Shakespeare in the Park.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 will hit theaters on Nov. 21, to be followed by Mockingjay Part 2 on Nov. 20, 2015. Director Francis Lawrence (no relation to star Jennifer Lawrence, naturally) began shooting the two-parter in Atlanta last September. Production is scheduled to complete later this spring in Paris and Berlin.
It’s always unfortunate when a film or TV series has to recast, but I can’t imagine finding a better fit for this role than Christie, who’s a legit 6’3”. Should make for a striking visual when compared to many of the other characters in the Hunger Games universe. I can’t wait.
