Game of Thrones Season 4 is taking shape, as another key role for the upcoming season has been cast.

Entertainment Weekly reports that British actor Joel Fry (10,000 BC) has been cast in the role of Hizdahr zo Loraq, the “young scion of an ancient Meereenese family who crosses paths with Daenerys Targaryen.”

Meereen is the largest of the three great Slaver Cities of Slaver’s Bay, and Hizdahr zo Loraq is a vital contact within the city’s network of factions. The character is being introduced much earlier than he was in George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire book series, as the character doesn’t make an appearance until the fifth book, A Dance with Dragons. Season four is expected to cover the latter stages of book three, A Storm of Swords, in addition to elements from book four, A Feast For Crows. However, since the storylines of book four and book five run roughly parallel to one another, Hizdahr zo Loraq’s introduction won’t be nearly as premature as it might seem initially.

Game of Thrones returns for Season 4 in Spring 2014.
