FOX Renews ‘Gotham’, ‘Empire’ and ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’
We’re only halfway through the 2014-2015 broadcast season, but FOX is already looking ahead to next year.
FOX has confirmed that they have renewed Gotham, Empire and Brooklyn Nine-Nine for the 2015-2016 season. While the renewals for Gotham and Brooklyn Nine-Nine were expected, the renewal for Empire comes after only two episodes! Of course, those two episodes proved to be among FOX’s biggest original drama successes in years. The series premiere for Empire tied How To Get Away With Murder as the season’s highest rated series premiere among adults 18-49, while the second episode actually improved on the first. This makes Empire the only new drama to actually rise in ratings in Week 2.
Ultimately, all three renewals are well-earned. Beyond ratings performance, the shows are just plain fun to watch. Gotham has its narrative issues, finding a way to juggle too much plot in too little time, but it’s a genuinely interesting show when delving into the criminal element of the city. And Brooklyn Nine-Nine is just as funny now as it was in its debut season last year. Empire, meanwhile, is pretty much the best new drama I’ve seen all year, so I’m pretty excited it’ll be back for a second season.
Congrats to all three shows on their renewals!
