Former WWE Star Alberto Del Rio Stabbed Prior to AAA Event
Alberto Del Rio was called out by AAA for no-showing their Heroes Inmortales X event this past Sunday. However, as it turns out, he had a pretty damn good reason for missing the show: Del Rio was reportedly stabbed multiple times prior to the event.
Del Rio, born Jose Rodriguez but competing in AAA as Alberto “El Patron”, took to Instagram on Monday night to tell his side of the story. According to his story, he was attacked by a knife-wielding maniac at a restaurant prior to the show. Del Rio was hospitalized and couldn’t get word to AAA in time about his inability to appear at the show. The photographic evidence shows that he suffered some pretty nasty gashes.
While this is awful for Del Rio, at least AAA is making amends with him as opposed to cutting all ties completely over the no-show. The company released a formal statement wishing the former AAA world champion a complete recovery:
“Mr. Rodriguez (“Alberto El Patron”) shortly after eating a meal before his flight was assaulted by a criminal with a knife outside the restaurant. Mr. Rodriguez suffered multiple lacerations on his arm and other parts of his body defending against the criminal as Police were called by witnesses. Mr. Rodriguez received medical attention and went back to the Police Department and was unable to make his flight.
Mr. Rodriguez has spoken with the ownership of Lucha Libre AAA WorldWide and given them the documentation of the incident. Mr. Rodriguez greatly regrets not being there yesterday for his fans in Mexico and promises to everyone he will make this up as soon as possible. Despite the graphic lacerations Mr. Rodriguez will not miss any of his shows for the remainder of the year and is ready to compete this weekend in the UK.”
Thankfully, Del Rio will be okay. But this is pretty scary stuff, considering he’s the second professional wrestler to be stabbed this week following the horrific road rage incident that left Jamie Noble hospitalized. Hopefully, this is the last story of its kind.
