First Look: Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor in ‘Batman v Superman’ (PHOTO)
So Jesse Eisenberg is bald now, but it’s with good reason. The Oscar-nominated star of The Social Network is playing Lex Luthor in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. And now, the first look photo has been unveiled.
“He’s not any of the Lexes that you’ve seen, that’s for sure,” says director Zack Snyder in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, “other than him being a captain of industry and one person to the world and another person to himself. And bald, of course.”
But how will Eisenberg’s take on Lex Luthor measure up to other versions of the character?
“Our Lex is disarming and he’s not fake,” Snyder continues. “He says what he believes and he says what’s on his mind. If you can unravel the string and decipher what he means, it’s all there.”
So does Eisenberg’s look work? You be the judge by checking out the first look photo of Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice below:
For the most part, I like the look. I didn’t think Eisenberg could actually look scary, but I think this image shows a darker, perhaps sociopathic side to Luthor, and that interests me. If nothing else, Eisenberg has the chops to pull off playing such a nuanced villain. I’m more excited to see Eisenberg as Luthor than Ben Affleck as Batman, or Jason Momoa as Aquaman, or Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. Of all the newcomers to the Man of Steel franchise, I think Eisenberg’s Luthor has the potential to produce the most memorable, electric performance.
