All-Female ‘Ghostbusters’ Gets 2016 Release Date

So that all-female Ghostbusters movie that just had its cast revealed yesterday? Yeah, it’s totally got a release date now too.

Sony has confirmed that the new Ghostbusters film will hit theaters on July 22, 2016.

The movie will star Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, with director Bridesmaids director Paul Feig writing and directing. Feig was the one who initially revealed the release date, tweeting it out to his followers not too long after the initial cast reveal.

Ivan Reitman, who directed and executive produced the original Ghostbusters in 1984, as well as its sequel in 1989, will return to produce this third movie in the Ghostbusters franchise.

This means we’re looking at a packed lineup of summer movies for 2016, including Captain America: Civil War, Suicide Squad, X-Men: Apocalypse, Finding Dory, Transformers 5, Independence Day 2, Star Trek 3 and Power Rangers. And now, Ghostbusters has been added to that list. We still have over a full year to wait, but I’m already excited for that lineup.
