FDA orders manufacturers to remove Trans Fat within three years
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has ordered food manufacturers to remove partially hydrogenated oils or trans fans from their products within three years. No trans fats can be added to food unless approved by the FDA.
In a statement the FDA’s Dr. Stephen Ostroff said:
The FDA’s action on this major source of artificial trans fat demonstrates the agency’s commitment to the heart health of all Americans. This action is expected to reduce coronary heart disease and prevent thousands of fatal heart attacks every year.
I’ve avoided trans fats for years now, and I am glad that it’s finally going to be removed from the U.S. food chain. Great job FDA.
