Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Reflects On 20 Years With WWE

This month marks 20 years since the WWE debut of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. While it’s been an on-and-off relationship between The Rock and WWE, he’s still remained one of the company’s most bankable stars every time he comes back.

In a series of tweets, The Rock reflected on his 20-year anniversary with the company, from the night of his debut at Survivor Series 1996 in Madison Square Garden through to such memorable segments as This Is Your Life with Mick Foley, and his heel turn at Survivor Series 1998. The Rock notes how surreal it was that his actual wrestling career only lasted seven years, but it’s clear that he still sees himself as a “WWE superstar” deep down, no matter how many movies he makes or how many magazines name him the Sexiest Man Alive. Check out the tweets below:

The Rock is still one of the biggest names in WWE, and I can’t help but wonder if he’s got another match in him at some point, or if his movie deals will prevent him from competing. I know the film studios weren’t thrilled about either of his Wrestlemania matches with John Cena, since injuries sustained in the matches ended up delaying production. So I could see it being difficult for Rock to get the okay to compete in anything other than a seven second squash like we got at Wrestlemania with Erick Rowan. Rock would probably have to have a completely clear schedule for him to do another match. But The Rock has one of the most stacked schedules in all of Hollywood, so I’m not sure how likely it is that we’ll see him in anything other than the occasional cameo. Still, I don’t exactly mind a cameo from The Rock, especially when it’s unexpected (like all his non-Wrestlemania appearances). The Rock just has that “larger than life” charisma that a lot of today’s stars are lacking. I don’t think there will ever be anyone like The Rock again, honestly.

But what do you think of The Rock’s twenty-year anniversary with WWE? What are your favorite and least favorite moments? If he came back for another match, who should he face? Sound off in the comments!
