Donald Trump lied again about the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic on Wednesday this time bragging about the United States "doing more tests" than South Korea.
He wrote on Twitter:
Just reported that the United States has done far more “testing” than any other nation, by far! In fact, over an eight day span, the United States now does more testing than what South Korea (which has been a very successful tester) does over an eight week span. Great job!
This simply is a lie and misleading to make it appear that the United States is doing a better job than South Korea.
Raw numbers alone do not tell the story. As noted by NPR on Tuesday, South Korea has a population of 51 million and the United States has 327 million. There have been 300,000 tests conducted in both countries, which means that South Korea is testing 1-in-170 people while the United States is 1-in-1,090. It is simply no contest: South Korea is doing a far better job in testing its people than the United States. Also, most of the tests have been conducted in New York state, which makes Donald Trump's "brag" even worse because the rest of the country isn't really getting tested at all.
Donald Trump has criticized New York State Governor Andrew Coumo for "not doing a good job" and now he is taking credit for what Coumo has done? What a monster.
Donald Trump is a danger to all Americans right now during this pandemic. Instead of telling the truth, he chooses to spread propaganda making people think things are better than they really are. So many Americans still think COVID-19 coronavirus is a hoax because of Trump.
This isn’t true; and there are few things more dangerous than a president or top official saying something like this to a scared public. Most people still can’t get tests. https://t.co/3RA7JKTiRL— Maggie Haberman (@maggieNYT) March 25, 2020
