Donald Trump Announces Presidential Bid for 2016

Donald Trump is looking to make the transition from multi-million dollar businessman and host of The Apprentice to…well, President of the United States.

Yes, “The Donald” has announced his bid for the presidency in 2016, confirming the news on Periscope earlier today. His platform? Making America great again, whatever that means.

“I’ve watched the politicians … They will never make America great again, they don’t even have a chance,” said Trump. “They’re controlled fully by the lobbyists, by the donors and by the special interests. … We have to stop doing things for some people but for this country it’s destroying our country. We have to stop, and it has to stop now.”

“Our country needs a truly great leader and we need a truly great leader now,” Trump would add. “We need a leader that wrote ‘The Art of the Deal.’ We need a leader that can bring back our jobs, can bring back our manufacturing, can bring back our military, can take care of our vets. … And we also need a cheerleader … we need somebody that can take the brand of the United States and make it great again.”

This essentially makes Trump the 12th Republican candidate for the presidency in 2016, as the field is pretty damn crowded right now. In addition to Trump, we’ve got Jeb Bush, Ben Carson, Ted Cruz, Carly Fiorina, Lindsey Graham, Mike Huckabee, George Pataki, Rand Paul, Rick Perry, Marco Rubio and Rick Santorum all throwing their hats into the ring. On the Democratic side, we have far fewer announced candidates. Right now, it’s just Hillary Clinton, Lincoln Chafee, Martin O’Malley, Bernie Sanders, Jeff Boss, Robby Wells, and Willie Wilson.

I can’t say the prospect of a Trump presidency does anything for me whatsoever, but then, I really don’t expect this to be anything more than a novelty run. Trump has been talking about running for president since time immemorial, it feels like, so I’m guessing now is as good a time as any to follow through. But I’m about as far off the Trump hype train as a person can be, so…yeah, not a whole lot of enthusiasm about this. That said, this should give late night talk show monologues tons of material. Silver linings, people. Silver linings.

But what do you think of Donald Trump as a possible US Presidential candidate? Sound off in the comments!
