David Tennant Cast as Villain in Marvel’s ‘Jessica Jones’ for Netflix

One of the most beloved stars of Doctor Who is heading to Netflix to play a Marvel villain!

David Tennant has been cast as Zebediah Killgrave (a.k.a. The Purple Man) in Netflix’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones, the upcoming Marvel series starring Krysten Ritter in the title role.

“After a tragic ending to her short-lived super hero stint, Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter, ABC’s Don’t Trust the B—- in Apt. 23) is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities in New York City,” the official series description read. “An enigmatic figure from Jessica’s past, Kilgrave’s reappearance will send shockwaves through the former super hero’s world.”

“I’m so honored and excited by the prospect of David inhabiting this multifaceted character,” said showrunner Melissa Rosenberg. “He can deliver the most heart-wrenching moment to the driest of lines, and all points in between. He’ll make Kilgrave a truly original villain.”

No premiere date has been announced for the 13-episode A.K.A. Jessica Jones, but it’s part of a larger Marvel televised universe coming to Netflix, with the April 10, 2015 premiere of Daredevil starring Charlie Cox.
