‘American Idol’ Winner David Cook Covers ‘Wicked Game’ (AUDIO)
American Idol winner David Cook has released a single from his upcoming album, Digital Vein, and it turns out that it’s a cover from one of the judges on the new season of The X Factor Australia (premiering September 13!).
Cook served up a poignant cover of “Wicked Game” by Chris Isaak, tackling the somber ballad and turning it into a heartbreaking reflection on love and loss. There’s a haunting quality to this cover thanks to the piano arrangement, although it grows into a more traditional rock track by the end. Not that this is a bad thing at all. In fact, I’d argue it adds to the drama of the song, which builds and builds into an explosion of sorts. I really loved this, and think it could signal a major comeback for Cook, provided the rest of his upcoming album can match this. Digital Vein will release on September 18. Until then, let us know what you think of the single in the comments!
