Darren Criss To Headline ‘Hedwig and the Angry Inch’ on Broadway

Following in the footsteps of Tony winner Neil Patrick Harris, Girls star Andrew Rannells, the incomparable Michael C. Hall, and show co-creator John Cameron Mitchell, Glee alum Darren Criss has signed on to headline Hedwig and the Angry Inch on Broadway once Mitchell’s run comes to a close.

Criss will be returning to Broadway for the first time since his three-week run in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying in 2012, a performance that helped sustain business during the post-holiday doldrums. The expectation is that Criss will help do the same for Hedwig and the Angry Inch, as the actor could bring a lot of versatility to the title role.

The 12-week run for Criss is scheduled to start on April 29, three days after Mitchell exits the role he created on April 26. There’s no guaranteeing that Criss will drive up business, but really, Hedwig has been one of the most successful Broadway shows in some time, so it certainly can’t hurt to have another highly visible star attached to the Tony-winning project.

What do you think? Will Criss be a good fit for the role? Or would another actor have suited the part better? If so, whom? Sound off in the comments!
