Dan Stevens Cast as The Beast in Disney’s Live-Action ‘Beauty and the Beast’

Dan Stevens is moving from one castle to another, as the former Downton Abbey star is now joining the cast of Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast.

According to Disney’s official blog, Stevens has been officially cast as The Beast in Beauty and the Beast. Walt Disney Studios has also confirmed the news, meaning this thing is totally happening! While this kills all rumors of Ryan Gosling joining the movie, I still think Stevens is a downright terrific choice for the role.

Stevens joins a cast that includes Emma Watson as Belle, and Luke Evans as Gaston. Already, this movie is shaping up to be the most anticipated live-action Disney film in years, at least on my end. The movie doesn’t have a release date yet, but production is scheduled to begin later this year, from director Bill Condon (Dreamgirls) and screenwriter Stephen Chbosky, who worked with Watson in The Perks of Being a Wallflower. This is a fantastic cast so far, and while there are still a number of roles yet to be cast, the actors they’ve hired up to this point leave me optimistic about where Disney’s head is at, regarding their casting choices.

But what do you think of this pick? Is Stevens right for the role? If not, whom would you have chosen? Sound off in the comments!
