Country Singer Craig Strickland Found Dead After Weeklong Search
Sad news in the country music world: 29-year-old singer Craig Strickland has been found dead after a weeklong search in and around Kaw Lake, Oklahoma.
The news was confirmed by Highway Patrol spokeswoman Kera Philippi, who stated Strickland’s body was discovered in the northwestern section of Kaw Lake known as Bear Creek Cove.
Strickland had been reported missing on December 27 following the discovery of the body of his friend, 22-year-old Chase Morland, following a cryptic duck hunting tweet. The search for Strickland was conducted in and around the immediate vicinity of Kaw Lake, where the two had been out camping. It’s not immediately clear what happened, but it’s speculated that both men were victims of Winter Storm Goliath, which ripped through Texas and parts of the midwest on the 27th.
For now, fans and loved ones are left to mourn the singer, who shot to fame on the country music charts as a member of Backroad Anthem. His wife, Helen, did her best to remain strong, writing on Twitter that Strickland is now “safe with his father in heaven.”
Such a tragic end. Our thoughts are with the Strickland family during this difficult time.
Rest in peace, Mr. Strickland.
