Corey Anderson vs. Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua Announced for UFC 198
UFC 196 is barely even in the record books, but we’re already looking ahead to UFC 198 with the announcement of a major lightweight match-up, as The Ultimate Fighter 19 winner Corey Anderson will take on former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.
With his controversial victory over Tom Lawlor at UFC 196, Anderson is now on a three-fight win streak. Rua, meanwhile, will be fighting for the first time since defeating Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in August. Interestingly, Rua will be the hometown favorite, as UFC 198 originates from the former champ’s hometown of Curitiba, Parana, Brazil. It should be a hell of a fight. Anderson is on the rise, and Rua still has a lot left in the tank, judging by his performance in August against Nogueira. That match-up was awarded Fight of the Night, and I’d imagine Rua would like to repeat (although winning the fight is more important, of course).
UFC 198 takes place on May 14, with a main event for the heavyweight title between UFC Champion Fabricio Werdum and No. 1 contender Stipe Miocic.
