Conor McGregor Spars With Ex-Boxing Champ: Is He Training for Floyd Mayweather? (VIDEO)
The buzz surrounding a possible Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather fight has taken the boxing and MMA worlds by storm, even though it seems exceedingly unlikely that it would ever actually happen. Still, this hasn’t stopped UFC president Dana White from telling Floyd to call him to negotiate, nor has it stopped Floyd from talking at length about what it would take to make the fight happen, on his end. And hey, maybe the fight isn’t as much of a longshot as it seems, especially now that Conor is sparring with an ex-boxing champ.
At the Box ‘N Burn gym in Brentwood, CA, Conor sparred with former IBO welterweight champion Chris van Heerden to see if he could hang in a boxing ring. Although he’ll need more work on his boxing if he’s going to go toe-to-toe with Floyd, Tony Jeffries (who ended his pro boxing career undefeated) vouches for the UFC featherweight champion’s work ethic: “Conor has been here everyday since Friday. Twice a day sometimes,” Jeffries says. “I never thought [Conor] had a chance at beating Floyd until I saw him box today. Now I am on the fence.”
But does Conor have a shot? See his boxing skills for yourself by watching the sparring session below:
