Chrysler Sued By Parents of Anton Yelchin for Wrongful Death

On June 19, 27-year-old Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin was killed when his Jeep Grand Cherokee rolled down his driveway and pinned him to a brick pillar. As a result of the tragedy, Yelchin’s parents, Viktor and Irina Yelchin, are suing Fiat Chrysler for wrongful death. And they could have a real case here.

As it turns out, the Jeep Grand Cherokee in question has been the subject of countless safety complaints over the years, with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration registering over 250 accidents as a result of the car’s faulty gear-shifting system, in which cars placed in park might actually be in neutral. The faulty gear-shifting system is believed to be responsible for Yelchin’s death, as the actor is believed to have placed his car in park to exit the vehicle, for whatever reason, only for the vehicle to roll down the incline in front of his home and crush him.

Sadly, a judgment against Fiat Chrysler won’t bring back Yelchin, but it could go a long way in preventing something like this from happening in the future. Yelchin was way more than just Chekhov in the new Star Trek movies. From films like Charlie Bartlett to Like Crazy, Yelchin was one of the most underrated actors of his generation. He will certainly be missed. Hell, he’s already missed. Here’s hoping all parties are able to get to the truth of what happened.
