Chris Harrison Says Luke Pell Could Still Be The Bachelor
Recently, it was announced that two-time Bachelorette runner-up Nick Viall would be The Bachelor 2017. It was a choice that left many fans perplexed, since it seemed fairly obvious that Luke Pell would be drafted from JoJo Fletcher’s season of The Bachelorette to take over the role, rather than a guy who found himself unlucky in love yet again, this time on Bachelor In Paradise. The perplexed feelings of the fans quickly flowered into outright rage that their favorite wasn’t going to be the new lead, with some viewers vowing not to watch Nick’s season in January. However, host Chris Harrison assures fans that it might not be over for Luke just yet.
“Luke would be a great Bachelor,” Chris told E! News. “You never know who could come back. He’s a great guy – a super nice guy. We may see him next summer in Paradise [or] we may see him as the next Bachelor. Who knows?”
In fact, Chris made a point of stating that Nick being chosen is in no way a slam against Luke. If anything, producers still think Luke would be a great choice.
“Luke was great, and I think people need to understand this isn’t an indictment on Luke,” he said. “We always have multiple candidates. We always keep our doors open because at the end of the day, the most important thing for us is that someone is sincere and that they are honest about coming on The Bachelor to find love.”
Of course, choosing a guy like Nick, who was over a year removed from his last stint on The Bachelorette, proves that the next pick for The Bachelor doesn’t have to be a recent competitor. Hell, Brad Womack returning for a second shot at The Bachelor for the fifteenth season, a full FOUR seasons after his first stint as The Bachelor, pretty much proved that.
Still, this has got to be hard for Luke’s fans, and for Luke himself, considering the former soldier/current singer-songwriter admitted he was just hours away from boarding a flight to LA to be announced as The Bachelor, before ABC called to inform him of their change of plans. But social media has remained on-board with Luke, despite Nick being announced as the new Bachelor. The #LukeForBachelor hashtag was a popular trend on Twitter, and I think a lot of his fans would be stoked to see him get that shot. However, it’s hard to know how excited his fanbase will be a year from now. I guess it all depends on the guys cast for the next season of The Bachelorette. If they’re all duds, I could see the producers asking him back, particularly if he goes on Bachelor In Paradise next year and rebuilds the excitement for his potential candidacy for The Bachelor. But that’s a lot of “ifs”.
