Caitlyn Jenner Announces LGBT Project In New Blog Post

Caitlyn Jenner is now officially a writer. Well, a blogger, to be exact. Jenner took to Twitter to unveil a new article, titled “The Journey Begins,” on her new website on WhoSay. It’s an insightful piece that will serve as the first installment in a new project by the former Olympian.

“This is the first in a series of editorials where I will discuss the serious issues and lessons that I am learning through this process,” she announced. “I have so much to discover and hope that you’ll join me on this adventure.”

The project is titled “The Real Me,” and through this series, Jenner intends to explore issues facing the LGBT community.

“I’ve heard every horror story there is in the book,” Jenner writes. “You wouldn’t believe the types of ordeals these people have had, how they have had to literally fight for their own survival. Many trans teens are bullied and abused in high school. It’s just horrendous. Then there’s the other dark side of this issue: did you know that nearly 25% of the women in high-end sex business are reportedly trans women?”

“Seeing how my new friends have overcome their adversities is such an inspiration,” she continues. “They are so well-adjusted and smart. I’ll be sharing their stories here in the coming weeks and I can’t wait for you to get to know them. They are just like you and me.”

Ultimately, while this is only the start of the series, I find it to be an interesting look into some of the challenges faced by a person in transition, seeking acceptance from society. Jenner has been a lot luckier, in some regards, than many of her contemporaries, in that she’s received an outpouring of public support that likely exceeds even the most optimistic hopes for acceptance that many in transition feel. Still, her opinion is an insightful one. Sure, not every LGBT person can have the sort of celebrity backing or wide public support as Caitlyn Jenner, but they all deserve that support. And respect.
