Brian Tee Cast as Shredder in ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2’
One of the stars of The Wolverine is looking to dine on turtle soup.
Brian Tee has joined the cast of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 as the iconic villain Shredder, replacing Tohoru Masamune, who played the villain in last year’s hit blockbuster.
He joins a cast that includes returning stars Megan Fox and Will Arnett, and franchise newcomers Stephen Amell and Tyler Perry, who will be playing classic TMNT characters Casey Jones and Baxter Stockman, respectively.
Michael Bay is returning to produce while David Green will direct from a script by Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec. The movie is looking to surpass the $485 million worldwide haul of the first film in the reborn franchise, which is a tall order in and of itself. But it’s far from impossible, considering the first movie had a budget that, at a massive $125 million, should have realistically prevented it from ever turning a profit. But Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are resurgent in their popularity, so the movie easily made back its money, and then some.
Tee should do a fine job as Shredder, since he’s no stranger to summer blockbusters. In addition to The Wolverine, he’s starring in Jurassic World in the role of Takashi Hamada. In short, Tee is building up an impressive resume of big budget credits. And honestly, it wouldn’t surprise me if Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 ends up being the highest grossing film he’s been in.
That said, we won’t find out until next year, as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 isn’t due to hit theaters until June 3, 2016. But that means we still have a year to feed coal into the engine of the hype train. Here’s hoping they deliver an epic.
