Box Office: ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Smashes Christmas Day Record
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” earned an estimated $40 million in the U.S. box office on Christmas Day, easily breaking the $24.6 million record of “Sherlock Holmes” in 2009.
The seventh movie in the “Star Wars” franchise is estimated to earn at least $140 million over the weekend which will push its total past $500 million domestically (via Variety).
The film could also reach $1 billion worldwide by the end of weekend.
The Force is unstoppable! How many more records is it going to break? This is like a phenom now. Disney did a great job in reviving the “Star Wars” brand with this movie.
