Box Office: Kevin Hart Dethrones ‘Star Wars’
Kevin Hart and Ice Cube’s “Ride Along 2” has dethroned “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” at the top of the U.S. box office for Martin Luther King weekend.
The sequel to Universal’s 2014 hit earned an estimated $39.5 million for the four-day period. “The Force Awakens” slid to third spot with $30 million.
“The Revenant” – boosted by Oscar nominations last week – sat at number 2 with a $34 million haul.
“The Force Awakens” has now earned $851 million stateside and $1.86 billion globally according to Variety.
The top 3 films earning in $30 million is still impressive for all three films – let’s see if “The Force Awakens” can keep its momentum next weekend. I don’t see any big openings on the horizon at the moment.
