Box Office: ‘Ant-Man’ Has Giant $58 Million Opening
Disney/Marvel’s Ant-Man was big in the U.S. box office this weekend, heading for a $58 million opening. Amy Schumer’s Trainwreck also took in solid numbers with an estimated $29 million.
According to Variety, estimates were adjusted lower from the $65 million for Ant-Man and $35 million for Trainwreck, after Friday’s numbers came in.
Ant-Man had a $23 million opening day at 3,856 locations in the U.S. It also opened in 50 markets worldwide. This should be enough to cover the $130 million price tag for the movie in a few days.
Last week’s #1 movie Minions was down 60% for a second week $46.6 million. Its 10-day total in the U.S should be about $213 million by Sunday.
