Bill Goldberg Signs Deal To Appear In 2017 WWE Royal Rumble
Bill Goldberg just came off one of the biggest wins of his career, defeating Brock Lesnar in just one minute and twenty-five seconds at the 2016 WWE Survivor Series. However, it looks like this isn’t the end for Goldberg in WWE.
According to a report by Pro Wrestling Sheet, Goldberg has signed a deal to appear in the 2017 WWE Royal Rumble, which will air live from the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas on January 29. The deal was reportedly signed some time before last night’s match with Lesnar. Although it doesn’t really explain why Goldberg was put over Lesnar as strongly as he was, it does provide some measure of rationale for why he won the match in the first place. After all, WWE needs to find a way to sell out that Alamodome, and having Goldberg compete in only his second Rumble, fresh off one of the most shocking moments in recent WWE history, could move ticket sales.
While Goldberg hasn’t been officially signed for Wrestlemania 33, it wouldn’t be surprising if he had one more match with Lesnar, perhaps with Brock putting his career on the line for one more shot. Then again, I’d kind of laugh if the match comes about as a result of Lesnar somehow costing Goldberg the Royal Rumble, since that’s what kicked off the feud that led to their first match back in 2004. History has a strange way of repeating itself in WWE. Hell, Lesnar losing to another spear and jackhammer twelve years later is proof enough of that.
But what do you think Goldberg’s role in the Royal Rumble will be? And if he does sign on for Wrestlemania 33, should he face Brock Lesnar again? Or should he take on a new opponent? Sound off in the comments!
