Bill Cosby Stripped of More Honorary Degrees
Bill Cosby has been stripped of three more honorary degrees.
Tufts University, Goucher College and Lehigh University have all rescinded their awards as more women step forward with rape and sexual abuse allegations against the comedian.
In addition to his 2000 honorary doctorate of the arts, Tufts also withdrew a 2011 award given to Cosby for excellence in children’s media.
As an email from President Anthony Monaco explained, Cosby has shown a “a lack of character and integrity” which goes against the school’s values.
Added President Jose Antonio Bowen of Goucher college, “[The Board of Trustees] unanimously decided that Cosby’s admitted actions are in direct violation of values Goucher holds dear, including our community principles of respect, communication, and responsibility.”
Lehigh University’s decision was due to the material revealed in Cosby’s 2005 deposition, in which he admitted under oath to drugging women.
Baylor College and Wilkes University revoked degrees last week and Marquette, Fordham and Brown did likewise back in September.
Despite petitions requesting they do the same, Fordham and Yale have ignored student requests to rescind Cosby’s degrees.
