BET Renews ‘Being Mary Jane’ for Third Season
Being Mary Jane is coming back for a third season!
BET has renewed the drama, starring Gabrielle Union, for a third season. And it was a no-brainer on the network’s part, as the second season premiered just two days ago, and quickly became the No. 1 original series premiere on cable this season.
Created by Mara Brock Akil (The Game), Being Mary Jane centers on Mary Jane Paul (Union), a journalist who has it all in her career, but has far less success in her personal life. The series tracks her romantic ups and downs as she searches for “Mr. Right”. It was a smash hit in its first season, and has put the super-talented Union back in the spotlight. This could be a cornerstone series for BET, as the network will be bidding farewell to The Game after Season 9, leaving this and Real Husbands of Hollywood as the only two original, scripted series on the network. Thus, Being Mary Jane is all the more important to BET, and Union is all the more vital as one of the network’s key stars. If it remains growing the way it has, there should be a long run ahead for this show.
Being Mary Jane airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. on BET.
