2015 BET Awards Live Blog

Kendrick Lamar opens the show with “Alright,” the latest single from the album To Pimp A Butterfly.

– Kendrick is one of the hottest stars out right now, so it’s good that BET made the choice to open up with him. It is also a poignant selection considering all of the craziness that have been going on in this country recently.
– Really great performance. He’s been growing.

– Laverne Cox and Gabrielle Union present the ward for Best Actor.

– Laverne better work! Nominees are Anthony Anderson, Idris Elba, Terrence Howard and Kevin Hart. It goes to Terrence Howard.
– He’s had a big year with the breakout success of the huge hit Empire and he also appeared in Wayward Pines.

Janelle Monae and Jidenna perform “Yoga” and “Classic Man”

– I love how Janelle Monae has been coming more and more into her style these past few years. This song is low-key a bop.
– Jidenna looks like a caricature character from a fairytale. But seriously what is going on with his look.

Sanaa Lathan, Morris Chestnut and Michael Ealy present Best Female Hip-Hop Artist

– Nominees are Azealia Banks, Dej Loaf, Iggy Azalea, Nicki Minaj, Think and Trina.
– Why do they even have nominees every year? Of course the award goes to Nicki Minaj!
– Nicki brings out her lovely mother for her speech and of course keeps it classy as usual and shouts out Dej Loaf, who will be touring with her.

The cast of BET’s The Game present the award for Best Male Hip Hop Artist! Pooch Hall comes out to announce that he is returning to the show for the finale as well as Tia Mowry! The season finale is on August 5th.
– Nominees Big Sean, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Wale, & J. Cole. BET Award goes to….Kendrick Lamar. Again, well deserved. He’s huge right now. He better praise the Lord in his speech! He’s really a humble and down-to-earth person.

Tyga and Chris Brown perform!
– Chris begins with his new single “Liquor.” I’m not really feeling this new song so far, but it may grow. Tyga then joins him for “Ayo” which is my jam!!!

– This song single-handedly revived Omarion’s career. Jhene Aiko didn’t come for her verse but during the verse Rihanna was jamming to the song as well!! AYEE YESS!

LaLa Anthony introduces the first MusicMatters artist, Avery Wilson.
-You will probably remember him from a few years back on the voice. Avery is now a big start on Vine.
-Great that he is getting this exposure.

The Weeknd surprises and does a duet with Alicia Keys for his song “Earned It.”
– The original version of this song should have been with Alicia, or at least an official remix..something! It pops so much!

Kelly Rowland presents the award for Best New Artist with Charlie Wilson.
– The nominees are Bobby Shmurda, Sam Smith, Tinashe, Rae Sremmurd and Dej Loaf. It goes to Sam Smith, who is not there, but Anthony Anderson accepts it with a toupee!!

Donnie McClurkin performs the “Blood Will Never Lose Its Power” as a tribute to the legendary gospel singer Andrae Crouch who passed away. I love this gospel song, but I really don’t like Donnie so I wish he wasn’t performing it.

It’s a Bad Boy tribute!

– After break, Diddy, who is now back to being called Puff Daddy comes out for a Bad Boy tribute! Mase, 112 and Faith Evans soon join to sing hits. Yes Faith!!! French Montana comes out to perform part of a remix to Bobby Shmurda’s “Hot Boy.” LORDT then Lil Kim comes out! LOL. Then they are Ma$e and Puff come back to end it. This is life. Then it ends with a shot of Biggie. Wowww.
– Now Pharrell comes out!

Silento comes out and performs “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae) as the Black-ish cast along with Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis ross perform! LOL so funny!

Sean Combs out to present Smokey Robinson with the Lifetime Achievement Award!
TORI KELLY tributes him by performing “Who’s Loving You.” YES!!!!! BRILLIANT!!!!
– Robin Thicke and Ne-Yo perform as well
– After he gives his speech, he performs “Tracks of My Tears.” This song is great!

Tori Kelly and the hosts introduce Meek Mill
– He brings out Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj to perform their new single!
– YESS NICKI! She looks amazing!

Yazz the Greatest, Serayah and Jussie Smollett of Empire come out to perform hits from the show including “Drip Drop” and “You’re So Beautiful”
-Drip Drop performance was LIT!!! They brought out Juicy J for it as well.
– Jussie also gives spoken part about how the Supreme Court decision is how far we have come and the Charleston slayings show how far we have to go!
– Great. Great. Great

Big Sean performs “One Man Can Change The World,” “Blessings,” and “IDWFU!”
– Dope performance as well!

Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis introduce the Janet Jackson tribute!
– Tinashe kicks the tribute off!! Come through Tinashe….wait this is before I realized she was just dancing and not performing. Jason Derulo and Ciara also give dance tributes. Ciara is killing this though!!!!!! They are doing a good job. Ciara, especially ATE that performance.

– Chris Brown wins the fandemonium award

– K. Michelle and Tamar Braxton team up for a duet! The two previously were feuding but have made up! Then they bring out the legend…Patti LaBelle!
– At the end of the performance, Patti praises the Supreme Court decision

– Fetty Wap closes the show!!! 1738 forever.

Thanks for following along you guys! See ya next time!
